1️⃣ Importance of Mental Skills and Physical Training

Life is a battle, admittedly an incredibly cheesing thing to say, but it is true.

Every day we get up to fight the seen and unseen challenges life throws at us. To win the battle and come out victorious we need to use every weapon in our arsenal.

👉 What are these weapons?

They are your Mental Skills.

Self-talk, visualization, goal-setting, mindfulness, breathing, emotion regulation All the things we know can help us, but we don't know how to train.

👉 How and where do you train them?

Through Physical Training

Physical training is the forge where you develop these mental skills. Different forms of training, strength and endurance training, mobility and flexibility work, sports, and all physical challenges that push your body to the limit.

Your mind is the weapon, and you use your body to sharpen and refine its skills.

Slowly but surely, and with consistency you learn how to use these weapons, you will become a skilled shooter, a master with the blade, and can hammer away at the challenges life throws at you.

When you begin to doubt yourself, see yourself as someone who can't step up to the plate and face the challenges head-on. These mental skills and the lessons learned in the forge are what you call upon to help you battle life, win, and reach your true potential.

My job, the goal of this blog, is to show you these weapons, how to use them, how to train them and perform at the highest level.

I am not perfect, nor will I pretend to know it all. I will do my best to share as much as I can about my struggles and teach along the way. Let's go for it together.

👉 What is a High Performer?

If I ask you to envision a high performer, chances are you envision someone performing at the height of their field. Dealing with the outside world, the mental pressures, the physical burdens and still coming out victorious.

The Tom Bradys', Katie Ledecekys', Courtney Dauwalters', David Goggins', Andrew Hubermans' and Daniel Ricciardos' of the world. (They don't always have to be athletes)

High-Performers exemplify what the power of training the mind and the body can do for your ultimate performance.

We can learn from them, take nuggets from their lives and implement them into ours, and become high performers in our own lives.

Imagine you are Batman. The Christian bale version, and if you disagree, catch me outside, how bout that?

The weight of Gotham City lies on your shoulders. You may have the riches of the world at your fingertips, but you are still just a person. To face the battles this city has to throw at you, you need the right weapons.

So where do you go? You go to 'The Armory'.

You come to me, your Lucious Fox.

I mean I am basically his twin, right?

I know that you are on a mission. I know that you want to push yourself to reach your full potential. I also know that without the right weapons, you won't reach your goals.

When shit hits the fan, and trust me, shit will always hit the fan. I want you equipped to win

You may still get your spine crushed by Bane, but I will equip you to get back up, make the leap to get out of the dark cave, face him again, and win.

Do you see what I did there? Like in the movie, do you get it? Ahhh, You get it.

3️⃣ The Arsenal - Here are your weapons

This is just a short list of all the mental and physical training methods that we will cover. I took creative leaps with some of these metaphors and got some AI help, just roll with it.

Mental Skills - The Weapons ⚔️ 🔱

  • Mindfulness: This is your armor. It prevents attacks from the outside world, or self-inflicted friendly fire from getting to you. The more mindful you are, the more impervious you are.
  • Self-Talk: This is your Swiss army knife, small but mighty. It can be used in many situations, no matter how big or small.
  • Goal-Setting: This is your battle plan, without a plan you are fighting aimlessly. Do you know what happens when you do that? YOU DIE!
    • jk that was extreme, but things do get harder.
  • Breathing Techniques: These are your cool night vision goggles. When the world starts to become blurry and dark. You can use these to gain back focus and get your eyes on the target.

These weapons are versatile in their use and can be called upon to help you hit that last-second field goal, or deliver a killer thesis defense.

Physical Training - The Forge 🔥🔨

  • Strength Training: This will help you learn the power of consistency, starting small and progressively overloading your system to grow.
  • Endurance Training: It's in the name. This will teach you to endure. Push your body to go far, to go deeper into the fray. The miles are the path to a resilient mind.
  • Mobility and Flexibility Training: This will teach you how the pressures in your mind can take a toll on the body. Your posture plays a role in how immobile you become, but so do the mental troubles of life. Through mobility and flexibility training, you can ease the tensions in your body and mind.
  • Sports: The single best representation of the capabilities of the human mind and body working in unicent. When you take part in sports, regardless of the competitive level, you learn valuable lessons about your mind and mental skills
    • Rock Climbing taught me to embrace failure
    • Triathlons taught me to endure and believe
    • Rugby taught me to use my anger in a productive manner
    • Swimming taught me self-reliance and the importance of competition
There is no optimal physical training method. There are many ways to push and train the body. You need to find the right training method (forge) for you and stick to it. With consistency, training the body will help build your mind
